Let’s look at what Burt has going for him.

• He’s a white male.
• He’s a small business owner in the current economic climate.
• He’s the “Everyman” so he’s relatable
• He’s a widower who raised a child as a single parent for almost a decade.
• His second wife is a war widow, who spent 16 years as a single mother, and raised her son well, keeping both their heads above water.
• His son was the victim of bullying (which is a hot topic in the media right now) and actually had to transfer schools, before returning to his old school to face his problems head on.
• His son is well-spoken, well-mannered and gets really good grades.
• His step-son is a football quarterback and co-captain of a glee club.
• Both of his children are aesthetically pleasing and photogenic.
• One of his kids is gay, thus securing most of the liberal and queer votes.
• One of his kids is the typical “hometown hero” which should help him secure the more conservative votes.
• His family is active in the community.
• He’s congenial and likable, as well as a genuinely good person.

Unless Sue somehow manages to rig the polls, I don’t see her beating him.  Which is awesome, in my book.  Burt rocks.  This will cast a lot of light on his family though, and they might have some problems dealing with it.  No matter how this plays out, this is a storyline I am really looking forward to.
